Our Founders
Dato’ Jaafar Indot
President
(2009 – 2020)
A visionary leader and governance advocate, Dato’ Jaafar Indot was one of the key figures behind the formation of MACD. With a pioneering career that saw him become Shell’s first Malay Managing Director, Dato’ Jaafar brought deep corporate experience and unwavering values to MACD. He served as a guiding force for the organisation during its early years, championing accountability, whistleblower protection, and integrity in the boardroom.
Dato’ Jaafar passed away in 2020, but his contributions continue to echo in the standards and direction of MACD today.
“He believed that directors must act with conscience and courage, and he lived by those words.”
Adj Prof Paul W Chan
President, Founding Member
(2020 – 2025)
As a Co-Founder and long-serving President of MACD, Adjunct Professor Paul W. Chan was a tireless advocate for strong, ethical leadership. A renowned chartered accountant and Chancellor of HELP University, Paul steered MACD’s development into a national voice on governance. He represented Malaysia on international platforms, including the IFRS Foundation’s Integrated Reporting and Connectivity Council and the Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI).
“Paul fought until the end; his vision was to raise the standards of governance in Malaysia.”
– William Ng, MACD Board Member
Paul passed away in 2025. His legacy lives on in the vision and values he embedded into MACD.
