Mr Lee Cheng Suan, was the Chief Executive Officer of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), Directors of FMM Institute, FMM Services Sdn. Bhd, from 1999 to 2013.
He was also the Chief Executive Officer of GS1 Malaysia from 1999 to 2015 and a member of the GS1 Global Advisory Council from 2012 to 2014.
Upon the establishment of ICC (International Chambers of Commerce) Malaysia, he assumed the Executive Director’s position from 2004 to 2013.
He was elected for a period of two years as a member of the Executive Committee of Transparency International Malaysia in 2005/2006.
He joined the Federation in 1979 and held several positions before assuming the CEO’s position in July 1999. He also acted as Executive Secretary (ASEAN Section) of the ASEAN-EEC Business Council in 1988-1989. He was also the Treasurer of Malaysian National Shippers Council as well as Chairman of its Training Committee, and also Head of the Secretariat for the ASEAN Chambers of Commerce & Industry’s Working Group on Industrial Cooperation.
He represented the FMM in several government committees in particular the Consultative Panels of Royal Customs and Excise Department and Immigration Department, National Productivity Corporation’s Consultative Committee on Information Technology and the Malaysia Incorporated Senior Officials Committee. He was responsible for developing strategic policies, interaction with government and other institutional bodies and international organizations. He was responsible for the adoption of ICT technologies in FMM’s operations as well as ensuring the completion of Wisma FMM building project.
Prior to joining FMM, Mr Lee served as Assistant Director, International Trade Division, Ministry of International Trade and Industry from 1972 to 1977 responsible for policy matters relating to ASEAN economic and industrial cooperation and also the promotion of international trade with East European countries. He was promoted as Senior Assistant Director (Macro-Economics) of the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Department (1977-1979) responsible for macro-economic planning and national accounts.
In 2001, the King bestowed him with the Kesatria Mangku Negara (K.M.N) award and in 2003, the Governor of Malacca Darjah Seri Melaka (D.S.M) award.
Mr. Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons), Economics from University of Malaya.
